Light distribution refers to how the light from a lamp spreads within a specified area. It determines how the light from the lamp is finally distributed within the illuminated area. When you need to choose the right distribution type for your project, you have many factors to consider. In the text, we have made a rough analysis of the installation application site. However, in actual applications, we need to consider the installation height of the lamp, the spacing between lamps, the projection angle of the lamp, the size and shape of the illuminated area, etc. This is why we recommend that customers refer to lighting simulation when choosing lenses, because it can intuitively reflect the actual lighting effect after installing these lamps so that you can make the right light distribution choice.

What is type 4 lighting distribution?

In the IESNA classification system, the lateral light distribution of street lamps includes Type I, Type II, Type III, Type IV and Type V, which are defined according to the point where the half-maximum light intensity (candela) of the lamp falls. When the point where the maximum light intensity (candela) falls is above 2.75 times the height of the lamp, which is the horizontal width of the road, the light distribution is defined as Type IV. The shape of the Type IV light distribution is a bit like a semi-ellipse, so that the light emitted by the lamp is as much as possible in front of the street lamp, and the proportion of light shining on the sides and rear of the lamp is low, which makes it an ideal choice for parking lots and courtyards.

Type IV light distribution maximizes the light of the luminaire to the front, usually in a long and narrow pattern. This optical type is used for the perimeter of parking lots, where there is no need to shine light to the sides and rear of the pole. Based on this feature, Type IV light distribution is also often used in sports venues, such as outdoor tennis courts, basketball courts and volleyball courts, because no lighting is required outside the courts. Type V distribution is an all-round light pattern, so the installation requirements are not very high. This type of light distribution is mostly circular, occasionally square, and is mainly used in squares, indoor parking lots, courtyards, and the middle area of outdoor parking lots, etc.
