Is SASO certification mandatory for goods imported into Saudi Arabia?

For products subject to the technical regulations of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia requires that these products exported to the country must meet the corresponding standards, and then SASO issues the corresponding product conformity certificates. When the goods are transported to Saudi Arabia, the SCoC is issued according to the corresponding PCoC, which shows that the goods meet the relative standards and technical regulations. This allows the goods’ customs clearance to be completed successfully, then they will be sold or used locally.

PS: Shipment CoC is a mandatory document required for customs clearance.

Why do I need a SASO certificate?

Goods imported into Saudi Arabia cannot be cleared without proper documentation. The SASO certificate can prove that the exported goods comply with the relevant technical regulations and national, regional or international standards of Saudi Arabia, so as to protect the health, safety and environment of consumers from potential dangers caused by imported products that do not meet the standards on the market.

What is Product Certificate of Conformity and Shipment Certificate of Conformity?

A Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC) is required to demonstrate that your product has been registered with SABER and complies with applicable technical regulations. The PCoC is valid for one year from the date of issue. Shipment Certificate of Conformity (Shipment CoC) is issued to the shipment which includes products that have been issued with Product Certificate of Conformity (Product CoC), that is, SCoC is required for customs clearance of each batch of goods. A Compliant Shipping Certificate (SCoC) cannot be obtained without first completing PCoC registration.
