What is the M Lighting Class?

Eight parameters were considered when selecting motor traffic lighting class M: actual speed, actual traffic volume (number of vehicles per day) and traffic composition, lane spacing and intersection density, parked vehicles, ambient brightness and driving task difficulty. From M1 to M6, the brightness requirement is reduced from 2.0 to 0.3cd/m2.

In this European Standard, basically three different lighting classes are described: M lighting class for motorized traffic areas, C lighting class for conflict areas and P lightingclass for pedestrians and low-speed areas.

Accepted Answer

EN13201-2-2015 covers the environmental aspects of street lighting taking into account the visual needs of road users. The standard takes into account lighting conditions in relevant areas, conflict areas, motor vehicle lanes and pedestrian crossings. Including M category lighting class for motor vehicle lanes, C category lighting class for conflict areas, and P category lighting class for non-motor vehicle lanes.
